How Dark Gifts reach your board

Dark Gifts are not a card you draft. From turn 3 a Dark Discovery button appears, and for 3 gold it offers you a choice of minions that each already carry a permanent bonus effect — the gift rides on the minion rather than being picked on its own. Whatever you choose keeps that effect for the rest of the run.

Which gifts you can be shown changes as the game goes on. Each one has its own window of turns, so the grid above is filtered by turn rather than by tier: it answers “what could I see now” rather than “what exists”.

Dark Gifts FAQ

What is the difference between a Dark Gift and a Dark Discovery?

The Dark Discovery is the button and the Dark Gift is what you get from it. From turn 3 you can spend 3 gold to Discover a minion, and the minion you choose arrives already carrying a permanent bonus effect — that effect is the Dark Gift. So you never pick a gift on its own; you pick a minion that happens to be wearing one.

Why am I never offered a particular Dark Gift?

Each of the 47 gifts has its own offering window rather than being live all game — the earliest open on turn 3 and the latest not until turn 12, so a gift you are looking for may simply not be available yet or may have passed. 4 of them are also offered less often than the rest, and a few are never offered on certain minions at all.

Is the Dark Discovery worth 3 gold?

Early on it usually is, because the gift is permanent and the minion is one you were going to want anyway — you are paying a premium on a purchase rather than buying the effect outright. The turn-by-turn judgement is a longer argument than a card list can hold. Read the Dark Gifts guide →
